Webb20 okt. 2024 · Letter dated October 9, 1659 written from Patuxent by Josias Fendall and Philip Calvert, in the name of Governor and Councel of the Province of Maryland, to the Honorable Governor General of New Netherlands, protesting intrusion of Dutch soldiers within the 40° of North Latitude into the territory granted to Lord Baltimore. WebbCecil Calvert sent his 24-year-old son Charles to Maryland in 1661. Charles replaced his uncle Philip Calvert as Governor. Philip then became Charles' advisor in government affairs. Charles remained colonial Governor until his father's death in 1675. The colony's population and economy expanded quickly in Charles' term.
